MasamiObari, born January 24, 1966, is a prominent figure in the realm of Japanese anime, celebrated for his multifaceted talents as a director, animation director, and mecha and character designer.
Obari's journey into the world of animation began after his high school graduation in 1985 when he joined Ashi Production. There, he contributed to several notable series such as "Special Armored Battalion Dorvack," "Transformers," and "Star Musketeer Bismarck." However, it was his pivotal role as a mecha designer on "Dancouga – Super Beast Machine God" at the age of 19 that marked his emergence in the industry. His directorial debut came swiftly at 21, directing episodes 5 and 6 of the esteemed "Bubblegum Crisis" OVA series. Additionally, he helmed three captivating Fatal Fury OVAs from December 23, 1992, to July 16, 1994.
In 1993, Obari co-founded Studio G-1 with notable animators Kazuto Nakazawa, Masahiro Yamane, Takehiro Nakayama, and Atsuko Ishida, who he was once married to, but is now divorced from. Although the studio was later disbanded, it was re-established as Studio G-1 Neo in 2000, showcasing Obari's enduring commitment to the craft.
Ōbari's passion for animation was ignited during his high school years, thanks to his friendship with Satoshi Urushihara, a connection that would shape his illustrious career.
