Madhouse, Inc. (株式会社マッドハウス, Kabushiki-gaisha Maddohausu) is a renowned Japanese animation studio established in 1972 by former Mushi Pro staff members Masao Maruyama, Osamu Dezaki, and Yoshiaki Kawajiri. With a rich history spanning over five decades, Madhouse has become synonymous with iconic anime productions. From its inception with the TV anime series Ace o Nerae! in 1973, the studio has contributed to the creation and production of numerous beloved shows, OVAs, and films. Notable works include Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, Perfect Blue, Trigun, Black Lagoon, Death Note, Paprika, Parasyte: The Maxim, and One-Punch Man, among others. Distinguished by its strength in both television shows and theatrical features, Madhouse has cultivated a talented roster of directors, including Morio Asaka, Masayuki Kojima, Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Hosoda, and Takeshi Koike. The studio has also collaborated closely with prominent manga artists such as Naoki Urasawa and Clamp, producing adaptations of works like Yawara!, Master Keaton, Monster, Tokyo Babylon, X, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Chobits. Additionally, Madhouse is credited with producing the first Beyblade anime series, as well as notable adaptations like Dragon Drive and Hunter × Hunter.
