Neat seeing other Tatung Einstein box art and that John Higginbotham did more than just the Miner Dick piece I turned up. Interesting too that the art is double signed

Excellent investigative work in the additional images! I think you're theory of this being the final painting (finished with digital touches and tweaks) makes sense to me. Great find!

For anyone interested in reading that "Game Over" feature article, here is a link to a full scan of issue 3 of Edge Magazine. Paul's art appears as a full-page image on page 62 an the article runs from page 63 to 67.

Wow, this is one I absolutely love!
Oh and hey, this is the 350th piece of art added to the gallery! 🥳

Looks like this art made it into a contemporaneous Japanese publication somewhere! This image is from Lost Media Archive, but I'm not sure of the actual source (i.e., publication) of the image: https://lostmediaarchive.fandom.com/wiki/Deja_Vu_II/Ace_Harding:_Lost_in_Las_Vegas_(Unreleased_NES_port)

Damn that looks good. Your photography puts mine to shame!
I try! But only for OVGA 😉 Facebook gets old pics and artist shots

While almost all of the time Tom would have only been brought in to illustrate the box art or promotional art, in an interview with Arcade Attack he shares that he actually had a hand in the creation of the Sparkster character (hence this page of concept art):
"R.K.A. was the exception to the rule where they brought me in early on top create the Rocket Knight character. I remember Konami wanted to get a game out there to compete with Sonic the Hedgehog."

Credit here to @Jeremyamoto but this painting is the cover art for Game Zone, Volume 2, Issue 16 (February 1994). Apparently the original Game Zone magazine ran for one year (12 issues) and then split off into Game Zone Volume 2, which was Nintendo focused, and a new separate Sega Zone publication.

Killer! This is my first time seeing this box art. I love that I'm still discovering "new" art for a series as famous as Tetris!

Absolutely stunning!
I don't get why they flipped it for the Mega Drive
I hadn't thought much about it, but it looks like the title screen for each game used a flipped orientation, which could have been a consideration for the MD box art? The European Game Gear and SMS boxes are likewise flipped (but Portugual's SMS release is not, nor are Brazilian SMS or Game Gear releases)

As video game-related animation art is added to OVGA, we've discussed a little how to best handle the artist field. Likely the best "person" to credit is the actual animation studio versus a specific individual. So for example for your Night Warriors one, I updated that from Unknown to Madhouse Studios, who I also added as a credited artist for the Aeon Flux piece. Similarly, crediting Don Bluth Studios (rather than Don Bluth himself) for the Dragon Lair and Space Ace cels. For the two Fatal Fury cels you've uploaded, I'd be inclined to credit them to Studio Wombat. I'm not sure whether Masami Obari would have had a hand on these, but then again, he was the Director, Character Designer, and Chief Animation Director for the film

Touching that you gifted this one to your dad!

Excellent that you snagged this one! I always thought it was curious that he started with Bayou Billy for the first of these and not a bigger franchise like Contra or Castlevania. And now its been such a long while that I was skeptical others would be made! That said, just about week ago Tom put out a video of Super C artwork. Its all pencils, but looks like he did something similar for Bayou Billy, so maybe paint next?

Superb, the more you look at it the more details you uncover. Like the venom droplet from the scorpion's stinger.
For me, I'm just in awe of how small Paul could work! He was clearly working with some very tiny brushes and he must have an incredibly steady hand

Ah! That makes total sense! Two pieces created for the arcade that then got separately used on the front and back of the Game Boy box. Killer!

Peringer's work is super sharp! I see some similarities to the GBC artwork for R-Type DX, but from Peringer's website, it would appear that that's a separate painting

Great job picking this one up! I'd love to find Mutant Wars

The monotone orange rendering here is killer, especially on the teal background!

A blog post on sonicretro.org following the sale of the Night Trap artwork provides a little additional information on the Sega of America employee that saved and later auctioned that painting as well as his role at Sega.
