Was this really a "recommission"?   I thought it was simply a reuse of the image?    Maybe just an ambiguous choice of words but isn't just a reproduction of the movie poster art?

    Tom Chantrell –

Super Star Wars | JVC Musical Industries | 1992 | Game Boy (as Star Wars), SNES, Super Famicom.

This box art would recommission Chantrell’s famous “Style C” one sheet poster for the original movie release in 1977.

Good catch @Bronty; I have gone ahead and updated the entry.

  2. We've recently implemented a new feature that enables comments on Artwork Records. This means that users can now share their thoughts, opinions, and feedback on specific pieces of art directly on the Artwork record page.

To use this feature, simply scroll to the bottom of the Artwork record page and you'll see a section where you can leave your comment.

We're pleased to report that the feedback we've received thus far has been positive. It's been great to see members engaging with this new feature and sharing their insights on the artwork they are viewing.

We hope that this positive trend continues and that members continue to find value in this.

If you have any questions or feedback about this feature, please don't hesitate to let us know.

  3. The overall results of the auction were positive, keeping in mind that it was held during a stressed economy.
I categorized the auction results into three categories based on value:

    D Grade- $100-$2,500
    C Grade- $2,500-$5,000
    B Grade- $5000-$10,000
A Grade- Bionic Commando, Prince of Persia

It was challenging for mature collectors to predict the exact selling prices for items valued between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. These items were primarily targeted at new buyers, or "first-time buyers," which caused some pieces to sell for more than expected while others were overlooked.

The B and C-grade items sold for up to 25% less than they could have sold privately, based on 2021 prices. However, it was to be expected in a stressed economy where many buyers may have been more cautious in their purchasing.

Despite this, Prince of Persia did very well and could not have sold for any higher IMO, even if it were offered in 2021/2. On the other hand, Bionic Commando probably went for the lower end of its value but still achieved a solid result. This shows that A-grade material will always command a good price, even in a weakened market or a hard-hit economy.

Overall, I think many were pleased with the results of the auction and hope that it was a positive experience for both buyers and sellers.

How so?   If varnish how or why could or would the foxing/mold start in the first place?   I’m fuzzy on the details

From what I can tell, this is not Foxing, as that would be dark brown spots.
The Varnish layer looks to be breaking down, probably due to improper storage.
A clearer picture will be great, but my amateur eyes think this is something other than Foxing.

I had a varnished oil painting that was stored in a damp environment, and the artwork was covered with Tracing Paper/ Vellum.
The tracing paper got stuck to the varnish layer and left similar white spots, which I was able to remove with ease.

But without a clearer picture, this is a guessing game.

I must say PoP's condition is rather deceiving. Foxing sounded tolerable as per the description, but the hi-res picture can not hide that it affects the artwork's visual appearance quite badly.

What's also concerning is that it appears to be difficult to restore, if at all.  I understand the artist himself is involved with the sale in some form, so one would expect he would have put his hands at the original painting to restore it and maximize profit. That obviously didn't happen (or with limited success), so one has to worry how much more the painting will suffer with further aging.

Luckily the painting had a Varnish applied to it, making it relatively easy to restore.

  6. Does anyone know if this was an interior Nintendo Power Contra piece?

Info I have gathered so far:
There is a note from "Wendy", a Nintendo Editor @Interactive Art Collection spoke to Wendy, but it's too long ago for her to remember.
The Artist "Philip Howe" did numerous Nintendo Power covers, interiors, and guides.

It makes sense if this was used somewhere within NP or guides, but I have not stumbled upon it yet...

  7. So from your image, I can see that the two Papers have already been glued but have slightly come apart.

If you cannot have this done professionally, as @Nic said, using a Clear PVA conservation-grade glue should do the trick.

A quick search online turned this product up, which has excellent reviews and is used in Bookbindings.

I would get a thin brush, lift the connecting seam, and brush the glue into the crack.

Even though this is a clear PVA, only apply a thin layer. When you place a weight/book on top, you don't want any to spill.
    Best work in small sections.

@Nic What do you think of this product?

Lineco acid-free adhesive has excellent lay-flat properties and dries clear. Easy to use polyvinyl acetate (PVA) formula is fast setting and re-moistenable with water. This adhesive was formulated specifically for preservation materials and will not become brittle with age. Adheres to most porous surfaces.
