  1. I was able to work a deal out with the owner of the art.  I had always hoped to pair the original art with the prototype.  My cartridge came from a guy in the industry.  I had reached out to various people hoping for a lead to the art but no one could ever help me. Seeing the finders post was a good day for me.  Anyway, Parker Brothers prototypes typically used prototype labels, so I always found it pretty cool the artwork was used for this.  Dracs Night Out fits my collection focus perfectly, so it’s amazing to me that I was able to add the artwork to the collection and pair it with the original prototype.

I'm loving how the auction is shaping up. Some I knew about, others are total surprises. And then even when I knew so-and-so might send something in, seeing the reveal of what was actually consigned is its own little treat.

I don't know about price predictions, but I think Mick McGinty's College Slam will surprise. Its a fun image and 20x15 is a really nice board size. Not too big and not too small. Plus, for 1996 it got a release on everything: DOS, Game Boy, Genesis, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, SNES. Actually, screw it, I'll attach a preliminary prediction. I'd say $15k and that would be very fair.

The recent run up in game prices brought some new love to sports games, things like Madden and Tecmo Bowl. I'll be curious to see how far that extends to sports titles and whether celebrity gives anything a boost! Maybe in a different bucket, but the Jack Nicholson portrayal for the Joker mag cover is spot on.

Nice prediction for College Slam.  I was thinking around 7k. It wasn’t a well received game but as you said is recognizable art.  The game was virtually the same as NBA JAM.  I always wished NBA JAM had painted artwork. Now that would bring some serious cash!  However, I do recall a collector telling me he knew the owner of the ball that’s on the Tournament Edition cover.  It’s not original artwork but would still be great to own.

  3. I want to add this bit of info pertaining to the artist.  I know those who are current collectors understand some artist aren’t necessarily well known.  However the new crowd may not be aware.
Anyway, some good souls put in hard work to build an artist data base for the ovga site. Make sure to browse the artist.  Click, read and learn about each one.  The database gives insight into many of the artist behind the covers and ads we love.  There are many pieces of video game artwork that is and should be coveted even if the artist isn’t well known.  The more you dig, you will see that the artist themselves were rarely credited for their gaming work.  Ovga will help change that.

  4. Welcome!  It sounds like you have collected stuff that’s just as niche as artwork.  The niche side is what keeps collecting fun for me.  You did say the word prototypes so we are on the same page there.  If you ever want to chat about those hit me up.  Original artwork though is really special.  I’m wishing you lots of luck in your search.  Your art search will be made easier once Heritage does its first video game art auction.  Maybe you will find something there.  I think it is early January 2023.

As soon as you said lemmings I knew who this was 🙂 hi Jeremy!

You could always remove the old acidic tape and replace with artists tape as an option

    Hi Dan!  Yup it’s me

Ok, I was nervous to attempt removal but I’m going to try once I buy a board.  I think it was Sanford that had mentioned me doing that long ago but I was always nervous I would tear the paper.

  6. I think it would be easier for members to chime in about a specific artwork. Maybe someone just wants to mention their nostalgia or just that they like the piece.  Maybe someone has a question about the specific artwork and they will comment to that specific piece but would never be comfortable in actually messaging the submitters.

With that said, no comments leaves a cleaner look for just the art itself if that makes sense.
