Was this really a "recommission"? I thought it was simply a reuse of the image? Maybe just an ambiguous choice of words but isn't just a reproduction of the movie poster art?
----
Tom Chantrell –
Super Star Wars | JVC Musical Industries | 1992 | Game Boy (as Star Wars), SNES, Super Famicom.
This box art would recommission Chantrell’s famous “Style C” one sheet poster for the original movie release in 1977.

That's a tough one Nicola! Doesn't really fit with anyone else I can think of.

I’ve talked to a couple people who mentioned some regret. Anyone with 5k could have picked up a published cover - that’s not sustainable.

I couldn't agree more. I have to admit that I didn't have much intention on bidding on this auction, but sorta wish I had prepared better to have some cash ready. A few of those pieces sub-$5k sold for a steal IMO. Might be better prepared for the next auction in case I see an opportunity! These are some of the ones that I thought sold for a steal.
Good choices.
COnversely I thought there were a few under 5k's that went for too much as well.
Above 5k though, things were cheap! congrats to the winners.

Fun auction although pieces above 5k were quite soft. Seems like people are short on play money. Some great deals were out there to be had.

Amazing, congratulations Jeremy! I thought of you immediately when I saw the painting!

From what I can tell, this is not Foxing, as that would be dark brown spots.
The Varnish layer looks to be breaking down, probably due to improper storage.
A clearer picture will be great, but my amateur eyes think this is something other than Foxing.I had a varnished oil painting that was stored in a damp environment, and the artwork was covered with Tracing Paper/ Vellum.
The tracing paper got stuck to the varnish layer and left similar white spots, which I was able to remove with ease. But with a clearer picture, this is a guessing game.
Gotcha.
A lot of these paintings that spent 30 years in a frame like this one was weren't framed with great materials. Maybe there was a microclimate issue from less than ideal framing (leading to dampness inside the frame). Archival materials wasn't much of a thing yet.

Luckily the painting had a Varnish applied to it, making it relatively easy to restore.
How so? If varnish how or why could or would the foxing/mold start in the first place? I’m fuzzy on the details

I must say PoP's condition is rather deceiving. Foxing sounded tolerable as per the description, but the hi-res picture can not hide that it affects the artwork's visual appearance quite badly.
What's also concerning is that it appears to be difficult to restore, if at all. I understand the artist himself is involved with the sale in some form, so one would expect he would have put his hands at the original painting to restore it and maximize profit. That obviously didn't happen (or with limited success), so one has to worry how much more the painting will suffer with further aging.
In fairness to the artist, the art hasn't been with him for 30 years now, he was never in a position to inspect it.

Is it safe to assume bionic will be on the top-12 public sales list?
I expect so

I do wonder if the art is related to the production of the game? I’ll have to look into it, but the pieces are really nice.
I believe so. Good luck

And its smaller than I expected, by quite a bit. Great looking piece though.

It seems Heritage did a big update yesterday, many artworks added.
Bionic Commando will surely take the No.1 spot for this auction.
this link will narrow the auction listings to the art only

I looked up the bionic lot. Description needs a little work I think. Oil on cardboard? That can’t be right.

Its such a fun piece! I'm glad this one was turned up and saved
Anything with Dracula and Reebok pumps is fun by definition.
This might be before your time but those shoes had a little pump in the shape of an orange basketball on the tongue (you can see it in the illustration if you look closely). You could press the pump to inflate the shoe for some extra tightness if desired.
Not sure what the FUCK that has to do with Dracula, but that's kinda the best part lol

let's see the rest of the art 😉
If its on two pieces of paper, TBH this may not be a popular opinion but I'd leave it alone. You could apply some of that glue Ibrahim mentioned to the backside of the art, but personally I wouldn't touch the front, so the seam is always going to be somewhat visible.
1 hour ago, Nic said:Adding any chemical to the front, in my opinion, is very risky: you don’t know how the painting would react. Glue or tape (with glue) are too risky.
Taping on the back with a pro acid free tape can be done, but you’ll still keep the detached line in the front.
You should ask to a pro restorer.
I see you already said what I had to say 😉
I am in complete agreement with that. The pigments used on the front may react, so its best to leave the front alone.

Fun ad. Can't help but about the dog paw.

Thoughts on the state of the market?
in General Collecting Discussion & Questions

Always a fun debate IMO. Thoughts?
Lower end market seems solid to me. Question mark for the future being how much supply can be absorbed by the market at current prices.
High end market in all collectibles feels quite weak right now, good time to buy... if you can find anything to buy? I haven't seen anyone selling any high end pieces since January.
