BOX=ART Timeline

2013 - 2019

  • May 2013 - Inspiration for BOX=ART comes after the author holidays in Japan and starts collecting video games for their covers.
  • July 2013 - BOX=ART begins to be designed as an art celebration site, with special purpose of crediting the box artist and detailing the history of the artform.
  • August 2013 - BOX=ART goes live.
  • October 2013 - First interview with box artist David John Rowe.
  • January 2016 - First major revision to the site, providing a more polished look and faster experience.
  • March 2017 - M.I.A and Timeline pages were added.
  • August 2019 - Second major revision, BOX=ART overhauled to function more as a reference site, with concise profiles split into two sections: the Index and Directory.

    • Frustrated there is not a collectors platform dedicated to Original Video Game Artwork, the idea is born to develop one!

    Winter - 2020

  • The originalvideogameart.com domain is purchased making it official.
    • Design/Development Phase

    January - 2021

  • A indepth analysis is made to look at other related hobby websites and draw up design concepts for OVGA.
  • Over nearly two years development of the website begins.
    • BOX=ART Joins OVGA

    October - 2022

  • Conversation started and agreement made with OVGA team to start preserving BOX=ART's information.
    • OVGA goes Live!

    November - 2022

  • Original Video Game Art (OVGA) opens its virtual doors seeking to raise awareness and appreciation for original video game artwork and responsible artists.
    • BOX=ART Shutdown

    Feb - 2023

  • With all of the site's information preserved on OVGA, BOX=ART shuts down after nearly a decade.
    • OVGA Podcast

    July - 2023

  • The launch of the OVGA Podcast, which delves into the captivating world of original video game artwork collecting.
